Starting a little garden, good soil tips?

Posted under Home gardening tips | No Comment

I want to start an tiny garden in my back yard. I have the spot picked out, which is coved in grass now (of course). My question is, do you have any tips on types of soil via bags at the local home improvement store I can get? I'm sure the soil now is not the greatest.

I'm planning on digging away the grass to about 4 inches deep. I don't think I'll put one of those black 'mats' down to stop the weeds since I'm perfectly fine pulling them out by hand.

I am a cherry tomato addict, and just want to plant a few plants to suppliment my habit haha

I use Super Soil from Walmart…it is a soil amender and light compost. You want rich soil for tomatoes so you might add some compost.

Have fun creating the new garden…

if you are only wanting tomatoes..i would get some pots and put the dirt in there…that way you control where your tomato plants are…and it will save you the hassle of digging the grass out of the yard…we have a garden…and let me tell you ..you cant pick out all the weeds..it takes me a couple of hours every week to hoe and hand pick them out….and we put vegetable fertilizer down…
