Training a kitten to go outside to the toilet?

Posted under Home gardening tips | 3 Comments

Hi all

I have a 3 month old kitten who is VERY good at using her litter box… However i wish to train her to use the garden instead, especially when we are at home and the back door is open – any tips or tricks?

heres the trick, where ever your cat's litterbox is start moving it toward the door slowly over a week or so and then finally outside, your cat will soon learn only outside, and then when she/he does you can remove the litterbox from outside and your life…lol

you should find a spot where you want her to go, take some the litter you use and put it in that spot, make sure she knows where she is supposed to go, if that doesn't work try putting some of her actual poo outside.

Consider yourself well-served if she uses a litterbox in your house. Some of my cats prefer to use the garden on occasion and ALL cats should be inside only after the sun sets (as mine are). So you will always need a litterbox inside – especially with a very young kitten who does not have the sphincter control of an older cat and will need a box inside the house.

Sometimes all my boxes are used during the night, sometimes not. If they need to go they need to have a place to go.
